With the amount of celebrity stars doing their bit for charity, it is a little harder to help a worthy cause when you are average Jo Blogs without a huge following of fans. To help you develop some ideas I thought I would put down a few points to help you on the path to organising a fundraiser of your own.
Firstly what are you trying to achieve, are you trying to raise awareness or raise funds. Raising awareness is normally achieved by educating the people that are your target group this can be done in a number of ways be it leaflets, radio, TV, a thing that you do that causes discussion or has the media showing an interest in covering the specific event or subject.
Fund raising on the other hand is asking someone to part with their money to support your chosen issue, once again part of this is educating people about what your charity is about, but the other part is providing the people that are giving you something with something in return. Shock, Horror you might initially think but people need to go away feeling like they have helped someone or something. If within this you can provide a person with something that is of interest to them or makes them feel happy all the better.
Once you know what you are trying to achieve think about where you are going to hold the event. If it is a village hall fundraising event or a church fundraising event speak to people in the area about using the village or church hall as a base or if it's about school fundraising speak to the school itself and find out if you can have the use of their hall to carry out your fundraising. Obviously if you are going to jump out of an airplane or run 20 miles it might be useful to have a base to work out from.
What are you going to do to raise awareness or fund raise. There are a few businesses out there that can help you organise a successful fundraiser. What many of these businesses do is set up an event such as a parachute jump or a fashion show fundraiser where they will tell you exactly what you need to do and support you to achieve your goal.
With parachute jumps this means you can get out there and get sponsorship from people for your particular stunt and also means that you might be able to rope in others that want to try a parachute jump for more sponsorship. A fashion show fundraiser on the other hand you promote by the fact that people can see clothes worn by your models and then buy at knock down prices. A good evening out and clothes shopping at the same time.
Whatever you do ensure that you get as much media coverage as you possibly can, before the event, so that people can see what you are doing, and for who, so that you can generate as much interest as possible for your fundraising event.
Fashion show fundraising is one of many ways that you can raise money for your chosen need be it church fundraising, school fundraising or a national charity.
